Men's Soccer Earns First Win of the Season

Washington, DC- The Notre Dame of Maryland Men's Soccer Team picked up their first win of the season, powering past Gallaudet University by a score of 6-2 on Saturday, Sept. 14.

The Gators took an early lead striking in the 6th minute. Hector Alvarez found an open Tassilo Lehmkuhl in space and Lehmkuhl raced past a defender and slide a shot into the back of the net. NDMU stretched their lead in the 24th minute when Maxime Baux laid a ball off to Athanasios Ziliaskopoulos at the edge of the box. Ziliaskopoulos fired a shot fading away, pulling the ball inside the near post for a goal.

NDMU started the second half with a bang, scoring in the 47th minute. Off a Bison free kick, Elija Hanrieder started a counter, finding Alvarez on the edge. Alvarez played a great through ball to Ziliaskopoulos who raced down the field and scored his second goal of the day. The Gators struck again in the 55th minute. Myles Tanksley drove to the endline, playing a ball back across the box that Lehmkuhl was able to gather in and score for his second goal of the game. Five minutes later, Alvarez scored his first goal of the season, converting a cross from Ziliaskopoulos. NDMU tacked on one last goal as Hanrieder struck from 30-yards out on a free kick to make the score 6-0. Gallaudet would score twice in the final seven minutes, but NDMU held on for the 6-2 victory.
