Costello Wonder Strike Earns Gators a 1-1 Tie

Baltimore, MD - Notre Dame of Maryland battled to a 1–1 draw with Cairn University on Saturday afternoon at Alumnae Field in United East Conference action.

Cairn (1–8–2, 0–3–1 UEC) struck first in the seventh minute when Paige Noble found the back of the net for her fifth goal of the season, giving the Highlanders an early 1–0 lead. The Gators (2–8–1, 1–3–1 UEC) responded late in the first half, as Madyson Costello converted in the 40th minute off a precise pass from Olivia Messercola to start a fast break that led to Costello crushing a long hit into the top left corner of the net to tie the game at 1-1.

Both sides created chances throughout a competitive second half, but neither could break through. Notre Dame outshot Cairn 15–17 overall and earned 13 corner kicks to the Highlanders' seven. Leah Hasberry anchored the Gators' defense with six saves in 90 minutes of work in goal, while Addison Barry and Alex Busick led the attack with multiple shots on target.

The draw gives NDM an important point as the Gators continue to show resilience in close matches and remain in playoff contention.

Notre Dame (MD) returns to action Tuesday, October 14, when they travel to face Widener in a non-conference game that was recheduled from a postponement earlier in the season.
