Lehmkuhl Leads Comeback Victory Over Lancaster Bible

BALTIMORE, MD – Notre Dame of Maryland used a second-half surge to earn a 3–2 victory over Lancaster Bible on Wednesday afternoon at Alumnae Field.

The Chargers struck first just five minutes into the match, as Andrew Cox put away an early goal to give Lancaster Bible a 1–0 lead. Despite several looks from Myles Tanksley, Carter Hafez, and Tassilo Lehmkuhl, the Gators went into halftime trailing.

Notre Dame of Maryland (1–5–2, 1–1 CSAC) flipped the momentum after the break. In the 67th minute, Lehmkuhl buried the equalizer to spark the comeback as he stole the ball away in the midfield and scored on a counterattack with a shot into the bottom left corner of the net.

Less than two minutes later, Athanasios Ziliaskopoulos slotted home the go-ahead goal as he and Jefferson Da Silva combined to steal the ball away in the Chargers half of the field. Da Silva gained possession and slotted a pass to Ziliaskopoulos who scored with a shot into the top right corner of the net.

On the ensuing kick-off by Lancaster Bible, the Gators immediately stole the ball away and started a counter attack. Ziliaskopoulos picked up the ball at midfield. He fed Lehmkuhl with a perfectly weighted through ball as Lehmkuhl hit an off-balance shot into the bottom right corner of the net for his second goal of the day to make it 3–1 with three goals in a span of just over two minutes.

Lancaster Bible (4–4–2, 1–1 CSAC) kept the match tense with a late strike from Silas Dellaperute in the 84th minute, but Notre Dame's defense held firm down the stretch.

Goalkeeper David Von Mentlen anchored the back line with seven saves, including a key penalty stop in the 72nd minute that preserved the Gators' lead.

The Gators matched the Chargers in total shots (16–16), with both teams recording nine on target.

Notre Dame will look to carry the positive momentum into their next United East Conference contest this weekend as they travel to Penn College in Williamsport, PA on Saturday October 4 for a 1 PM kick-off.
