Williamsport, PA – The Notre Dame of Maryland men's soccer team earned a hard-fought 0–0 draw on the road against Penn College Saturday afternoon at UPMC Field, securing an important United East Conference point.
The Gators (1-5-3, 1-1-1 United East) turned in one of their most complete defensive efforts of the season, holding a strong Penn College attack scoreless despite being outshot 15–12. Goalkeeper
David Von Mentlen was outstanding in net, recording six saves en route to his second clean sheet of the year.
Senior
Tassilo Lehmkuhl led the Gators with six shots, including two on target, creating several of the team's best scoring chances.
Carter Hafez added two shots on goal from the back line, while
Kim O'Sullivan,
Athanasios Ziliaskopoulas, and
Maxime Baux each contributed offensively with key attempts that kept the Wildcats' defense on edge.
Defensively,
Gennaro Morgese and
Martin Rasiwala anchored a composed Notre Dame back line that absorbed consistent second-half pressure, especially during a five-corner stretch by Penn College.
Aaron Reynolds and
Cooper Thompson each picked up yellow cards during a tense midfield battle in the 62nd minute, reflecting the physical nature of the contest.
The Gators held a 4–5 edge in corner kicks and matched the Wildcats' intensity throughout both halves, particularly in the closing minutes as Von Mentlen turned away two late headers to preserve the draw.
Notre Dame returns to action next week, continuing United East play as the Gators host St. Mary's College on Tuesday, October 7 at 2 PM.
