La Plume, PA — The Notre Dame of Maryland women's soccer team delivered an offensive showcase on Saturday afternoon, cruising to an 8–1 victory over Keystone College at Keystone Turf Field.
The Gators (3–9–1, 2–3–1 United East) came out firing, scoring seven first-half goals and never looking back en route to their second conference win of the season.
Senior
Madyson Costello and junior
Alex Busick each netted two goals, while
Leah Acri also struck twice to power a balanced Notre Dame attack that produced 35 total shots, including 26 on target.
Karen Morales and
Tessa Wiles added one goal apiece to round out the scoring.
The Gators wasted little time getting on the board as Morales scored in the eighth minute off an assist from
Olivia Messercola, who finished with two assists on the day. Busick made it 2–0 minutes later, and Wiles added her first goal of the season in the 21st minute.
After Keystone briefly cut the deficit to 3–1, Notre Dame poured it on, with Costello, Acri, and Costello again scoring in a 15-minute span to stretch the lead to 6–1. Acri's second of the game in the 42nd minute gave the Gators a commanding 7–1 advantage at halftime. Busick capped the scoring in the 56th minute with her fifth goal of the season.
Adrienne Villa and
Malaika Habib each tallied an assist in the win, while goalkeepers
Makaylah Reyes and
Emmalee Corbin combined for the victory in net. Keystone's lone goal came from Brooke Freni, assisted by Reshma Kaldan, in the 25th minute.
Notre Dame controlled every phase of the match, holding a 35–3 edge in shots and a 4–0 advantage in corner kicks. Keystone's goalkeeper Malaysia Bryant finished with an impressive 18 saves despite facing constant pressure.
With the win, the Gators build momentum heading into the final week of United East Conference play as they moved up to fifth place in the conference with 10 points. They'll look to carry their offensive rhythm into their next matchup when they travel to Wilson College on Tuesday, October 21 at 4:30 PM.
