Chambersburg, PA — The Notre Dame of Maryland women's soccer team have clinched their return to the United East Conference playoffs as they battled to a 1–1 draw on the road Tuesday evening against Wilson College at Kris's Meadow. The point guarantees a spot in the postseason for the Gators after missing out in the 2024 season.
The Phoenix jumped ahead early when Halley Shaffer scored in the eighth minute off a feed from Atiya Jackson, but the Gators (3–9–2, 2–3–2) quickly answered. In the 32nd minute, sophomore
Alex Busick stepped up to the penalty spot and buried her attempt to even the score at 1–1; her team-leading third goal of the season.
From there, both teams traded chances, but neither side could find a breakthrough. Goalkeeper
Leah Hasberry was outstanding in net for Notre Dame, recording nine saves to keep the Gators in contention throughout the match.
Addison Barry added a shot on goal, while
Malaika Habib generated pressure off the bench with another effort on frame.
Wilson outshot Notre Dame 20–5, but the Gators' defense, led by
Tessa Wiles,
Ariana Rodriguez, and
Addison Barry, held firm to secure the road result.
With the postseason spot locked up, now the Gators will look to improve their seeding as their regular season finale will see them host Penn State Brandywine on Saturday, October 25 at 3 PM. This will also include the senior day ceremonies as it will be the final game of the regular season for NDM.
