Men's Soccer Clinches Playoff Berth With 1-1 Draw

Chambersburg, PA — For the third straight season since their debut in 2023, the Notre Dame of Maryland men's soccer has earned a spot in the United East Conference playoffs. The Gators opened the scoring early but couldn't reclaim the lead in a hard-fought 1–1 draw on the road against Wilson College Tuesday evening at Kris's Meadow, but the draw was enough to seal a playoff spot.

The Gators (2–6–4, 2–2–2) struck quickly in the third minute when Athanasios Ziliaskopoulos buried a pass from Tassilo Lehmkuhl to give Notre Dame an early advantage. The Phoenix responded in the 25th minute, as Wilson's Tyler Cottone converted off assists from Omar Cortez and Andrew Bailey to even the match at 1–1.

Both sides had chances through the remainder of the contest, but stout defensive play and strong goalkeeping kept the score level. Goalkeepers David Von Mentlen and Gabriel Gendarme combined for four saves, splitting duties between the posts for the Gators. Martin Rasiwala led the offensive push with five shots, including two on target, while Ziliaskopoulos added four shots and Lehmkuhl contributed three with an assist.

Notre Dame outshot Wilson 16–8 and held a 3–3 draw in corner kicks. Despite a physical second half that featured multiple Wilson cautions, the Gators maintained control and composure, preserving the tie to earn a point on the road.

NDM will close out their season on Saturday, October 25 at 12 PM when they host Penn State Brandywine at 12 PM. The Gators have a chance to earn the #4 spot in the standings which would guarantee being able to host a quarterfinal playoff game, but would need help from other games in order to achieve that.
