Williamsport, PA – The Notre Dame of Maryland women's soccer team faced a tough test Saturday afternoon, dropping a 4–0 decision to unbeaten Penn College at UPMC Field.
The Gators (2-7, 1-2 United East) battled throughout the match but couldn't overcome a fast start from the Wildcats, who improved to 10-0-2 on the year. Penn College scored three times in the first 25 minutes and added one more in the second half to secure the win.
Goalkeeper
Leah Hasberry turned in another strong performance despite the final score, recording a season-high 13 saves while facing 34 total shots. She made several key stops, including a sequence of back-to-back saves late in the first half to keep the deficit from growing.
Senior
Alex Busick led the Gators with three shots (two on goal), while
Tessa Wiles added one shot on target and
Malaika Habib contributed another attempt from distance.
Ariana Rodriguez,
Addison Barry, and
Jillian Seay anchored the Gators' back line, playing the full 90 minutes in a match that demanded heavy defensive work.
Notre Dame registered five total shots, including three on goal. However, Penn College's attack, led by Sara Darlington's hat trick, proved too much to contain.
The Gators will look to bounce back as they return home for their next United East match up next week at Alumnae Field when they host St. Mary's College on Tuesday, October 7 at 4 PM.
