BALTIMORE, MD – The Notre Dame of Maryland soccer team struck for a second-half goal but dropped a 7–1 decision to St. Mary's (MD) in Tuesday's United East Conference matchup at Alumnae Field.
After a dominant first half from the Seahawks (7–4–2, 4–0–0 United East) that saw seven goals in the opening 45 minutes, the Gators (2–8, 1–3) regrouped and produced a strong response after halftime. Junior
Alex Busick broke through for Notre Dame in the 66th minute, scoring her third goal of the season to put the Gators on the board.
Goalkeeper
Leah Hasberry turned in another busy outing, recording 14 saves against 42 total shots faced. Offensively,
Jillian Seay and
Madyson Costello each tallied a shot, while Busick led the attack with two shots on goal.
For St. Mary's, Megan Rusk scored twice and added an assist, while Maddison Spradlin contributed a goal and an assist. The Seahawks built a 7–0 halftime advantage before the Gators settled in defensively in the final period, holding St. Mary's scoreless over the last 45 minutes.
Notre Dame continues conference play this weekend, looking to build off its second-half effort when it returns to action against Cairn University.
