Randolph-Macon Stifles Gators 63-38

Ashland, VA - Notre Dame of Maryland women's basketball dropped its second straight game to open the 2025–26 season, falling 63–38 to Randolph-Macon on Monday night at Crenshaw Gymnasium.

The Gators (0–2) struggled to find an offensive rhythm early, scoring just two points in the opening quarter as the Yellow Jackets (2–0) built a 15–2 advantage. Despite showing flashes of improvement throughout the game, Notre Dame couldn't overcome Randolph-Macon's strong interior play and balanced scoring.

Junior center Amani Watts led the Gators with 9 points and 6 rebounds, making her mark from the free-throw line by going 7-for-10. Raina Burns provided an energetic lift off the bench, scoring 10 points on 4-of-9 shooting to go with 3 rebounds. Allison Holman continued her steady two-way play, finishing with 6 points, 6 boards, and 5 assists.

Notre Dame's defense forced 16 turnovers and limited Randolph-Macon to just 10 points in the fourth quarter, showing grit late in the contest. However, cold shooting from the field (22 percent) and from beyond the arc (0-for-11) ultimately proved too much to overcome.

Randolph-Macon was paced by McKenzie Matheny with 11 points, while Sam Smith added 9 points and 6 assists as the Yellow Jackets shot 41 percent from the field and out-rebounded the Gators 45–39.

The Gators will look to bounce back when they travel to the eastern shore to take on Washington College on Thursday, November 13 at 7 PM.
