TOWSON, MD – Notre Dame of Maryland men's soccer opened its 2025 season with a hard-fought road contest at Goucher but came up just short in a 1–0 loss on A sunny Sunday afternoon.
The Gators controlled stretches of play and generated chances, finishing with 12 total shots and six on goal, but were unable to find the back of the net. Goucher's goalkeeper Ale Sternini turned aside all six shots he faced to preserve the shutout.
The decisive moment came early in the second half when Goucher's Joel Lukoo scored in the 46th minute, finishing a combination play assisted by Andres Aristimuno and Jonathan Adima.
Notre Dame had opportunities to equalize, with Theo Miras, Tassilo Lehmkuhl, and Rodrigo Liz each testing the keeper. Freshman Jefferson Monroy also recorded a shot on target, but Sternini was up to the challenge.
On the defensive end, senior goalkeeper David Von Mentlen kept the Gators within striking distance, recording six saves in the full 90 minutes. Defender Gennaro Morgese anchored the back line as the defense showed a strong performance.
NDM returns to action later this week as they host Washington Adventist on Thursday, September 4 at 4 PM in what should be an exciting home opener for the Gators.
