BALTIMORE, MD – Notre Dame of Maryland men's soccer earned a hard-fought 1–1 draw against Washington Adventist on Thursday afternoon at Alumnae Field.
After a scoreless first half, the Gators struck first in the 65th minute when
Theo Miras converted a penalty kick in the bottom left corner after earning the foul in the goal box, giving NDMU a 1–0 advantage. Miras was active throughout the match, leading the team with five shots and three on target.
The Shock responded in the 78th minute on an unfortunate own goal by the Gators to level the score at 1–1. Despite several late opportunities, including 10 corner kicks across the match, Notre Dame could not find a winner.
The Gators outshot Washington Adventist 18–9 and controlled much of the possession, with
Kim O'Sullivan,
Myles Tanksley, and
Athanasios Ziliaskopoulos each contributing multiple attempts on goal. Defensively,
David Von Mentlen went the full 90 minutes in net, while the back line of
Martin Rasiwala,
Gennaro Morgese,
Carter Hafez, and O'Sullivan along with the defensive midfield efforts of
Jefferson Monroy held strong for long stretches.
Notre Dame (0-1-1) will look to build on the result as they continue their non-conference slate as they travel to Virginia to take on Mary Baldwin University on Saturday, September 6 at 3:30 PM.
