TOWSON, MD – Notre Dame of Maryland put together a strong all-around performance Wednesday night, sweeping Goucher in straight sets (28-26, 25-23, 26-24) at the Decker Sports & Rec Center. The win improves the Gators to 2-1 on the season.
The opening set set the tone for the evening, as Notre Dame edged out a back-and-forth battle, 28-26. The Gators' offense came alive late, hitting .217 in the third set to close out the sweep.
Kaliyah Brown powered the attack with a team-high 11 kills to go with nine digs and two service aces. Rosemary O'Brien added eight kills and Emily Gordon chipped in six kills. Myla Palmer made her presence felt off the bench, tallying four kills.
Setter Alyson Lackovic ran the offense with 18 assists and added 15 digs for a double-double, while Shelbey Willson handed out 13 assists. Defensively, libero Izzy Stewart anchored the back row with a match-high 31 digs, helping to keep Goucher's attack at bay.
As a team, Notre Dame registered 42 kills, 75 digs, and three total blocks while limiting Goucher to a .008 hitting percentage.
The Gators will look to build on the win as they continue non-conference play this weekend as they host Eastern Mennonite for a home opener doubleheader on Saturday, September 6 at 3 PM.
