Goucher Beats NDM on Last Minute Goal

BALTIMORE, MD – Notre Dame of Maryland women's soccer came out strong but was edged late in a 2–1 loss to Goucher on Saturday afternoon at Alumnae Field on a dramatic last minute goal.

The Gators (0-2) struck first just seconds into the second half when junior midfielder Alex Busick took a free kick from just outside of the 18 yard box buried a shot in the top of the net to put NDM ahead 1–0. Busick was active all game, finishing with a team-high four shots, three of them on goal.

The lead was short-lived as Goucher's Brianna Wilson equalized less than three minutes later. The Gophers netted the game-winner in the 89th minute when Jasmine Haskell scored to make it 2–1.

Notre Dame was forced to play with just 10 on the field for large portions of the game as injuries continued to pile up for the Gators. The tenacity of the team, particularly in the midfield with Malaika Habib, Leah Acri, and Busick gave the Gators enough energy to keep in the game and not be forced to sit back in their own territory.

Goalkeeper Leah Hasberry kept Notre Dame in contention with an outstanding performance, recording nine saves on 11 shots on goal. Defenders Ariana Rodriguez, Kathryn DeGrange, Jillian Seay, and Sophie Wisniewski anchored the back line against Goucher's 20 total shots.

The Gators generated six shots in total, with Acri contributing a pair of attempts alongside Busick's efforts.

Notre Dame (0-2) will look to rebound in its next match as it continues the non-conference slate when they travel to Susquehanna University on Wednesday, September 10 at 7:30 PM.
