Slow Start Dooms Gators in Lancaster

Lancaster, PA — The Notre Dame of Maryland women's basketball team came up short in a United East road matchup Tuesday night, falling 67–53 to Lancaster Bible at the Horst Athletic Center.

The Gators struggled to find an offensive rhythm early, managing just two points in the opening quarter, as Lancaster Bible built a 23–2 advantage. Notre Dame settled in over the final three periods, outscoring the Chargers 51–44 the rest of the way, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome.

Marecia Barnett led all scorers with 21 points, knocking down five three-pointers and accounting for nearly 40 percent of Notre Dame's offense. Amani Watts added nine points and a team-high eight rebounds, while Madison Simmons chipped in six points, two steals, and two assists.

Notre Dame showed resilience in the second half, cutting into the deficit behind improved shooting and defensive pressure. The Gators scored 21 points in the fourth quarter, their highest output of the night, highlighted by timely three-point shooting and fast-break opportunities.

Despite holding Lancaster Bible to just 10 points in the third quarter, the Chargers capitalized at the free-throw line late, converting 11 fourth-quarter free throws to secure the win.

Notre Dame (12–10, 8–4 United East) will look to regroup in their regular season finale when they travel to Cedar Crest on Saturday, February 14 at 1 PM.
