HANOVER, MD - Notre Dame of Maryland dropped a 15–2 decision to Washington College on Tuesday afternoon at Joe Cannon Stadium in the home opener for the Gators. NDM falls to 0-3 on the season as part of a difficult early season schedule.
Washington College jumped out to an early lead, scoring five runs in the top of the first inning and adding two more in the second to take control of the game. The Shoremen continued to apply pressure throughout the middle innings, capitalizing on timely hitting and extra-base hits to build a commanding advantage. The Gators were able to cut down a few runs with timely defensive plays including
Hunter Beil throwing out two runners at the plate from right field.
The Gators broke through in the bottom of the fifth inning when Beil singled through the right side, driving in
AJ Williams to put Notre Dame on the scoreboard. Notre Dame added another run in the sixth as
Ryan Parks doubled down the left field line, plating
Brendan Altman from first base.
Offensively, Notre Dame was led by Parks, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI double.
Chase Cichocki and Beil each collected hits, while Altman reached base twice and scored a run. The Gators finished with five hits and worked three walks on the afternoon.
On the mound,
Donny White made the start for Notre Dame, with
Jorden Kozak,
Austin Barnes, and
Joe Agrusti providing relief out of the bullpen. Barnes delivered a solid stretch in the middle innings, limiting Washington College to one run over 2.2 innings of work.
