CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – The Notre Dame of Maryland University baseball team dropped its regular season finale, being swept by Wilson College in a doubleheader 2-1 and 7-5 on Sunday.
Despite the loss, the Gators clinched the number six seed in the upcoming United East playoffs in only their second year as a program. The Gators will take on third-seed Penn State Abington on Friday in a best-of-three series. The doubleheader will start at 1 p.m.
Back to Sunday's action, Notre Dame trailed 1-0 until the seventh inning when
Brendan Altman scored on a wild pitch to tie the score at 1-all. Wilson took the lead for good in the eighth on a RBI single.
Brennan Deremeik had three hits in the opener, while Altman collected two hits.
AJ Williams went the distance, striking out five and walking one.
In game two, Notre Dame led 2-1 after two innings, as
Chase Cichocki scored on a sacrifice fly by Deremeik in the first with
Ben Boyer scoring in the second on a throwing error.
Notre Dame took a 5-2 lead in the sixth as Cichocki scored on a sacrifice fly by
Hunter Beil in the fifth, with
Ben Boyer scoring a double in the sixth via a
Zane Cook double. Cook would later score on a throwing error.
Wilson would plate four runs in the bottom of the sixth and then one in the eighth to take the win.
Cook and Cichocki each had two hits in game two.
Bryden Keithley took the loss in relief of
Donny White. White struck out three in four innings of work, while Keithley struck out two and walked one in 3.1 innings of work.
