BALTIMORE – The Notre Dame of Maryland women's soccer team defeated Cedar Crest 3-2 on Tuesday afternoon at the Turf Field Sponsored by the SSNDs to win their first United East match of the season.
The win is the Gators' first win over Cedar Crest since 2015 and snaps an eight-match losing streak. The Gators' three goals are also their first in the series since 2015.
The Gators' offense was powered by
Ava Tippett, who scored twice, once in the ninth minute and again in the 84
th minute.
Cedar Crest drew the game in the 21
st minute following Tippett's opening goal before the Gators reclaimed the lead through
Leah Acri's goal in the 32
nd minute, which was assisted by
Taylor Edwards.
Acri led the Gators with four shots on target, while
Alex Busick recorded seven shots, leading all players.
Edwards then assisted Tippett's second goal to give NDMU a 3-1 lead.
The Falcons would score 60 seconds later to make it 3-2 but could not find the equalizer.
Leah Hasberry saved five Falcons shots as the Gators outshot CCC 23-11, with 11 shots on goal to the Falcons' seven.
The Gators are 3-6 on the season and 1-1 in conference play. They are back in action next Wednesday to face Penn State Brandywine.
