Marywood Sweeps Softball

BEL AIR, MD - Visiting Marywood cruised to a doubleheader sweep over College of Notre Dame Saturday afternoon, taking game one by a 20-3 score and earning a 12-0 win in the night cap. The Pacers improved to 11-13 overall and 7-3 in Colonial States Athletic Conference play with the win. The Gators, who saw their two-game winning streak come to an end, dropped to 4-10 overall and 3-9 in CSAC play.

Marywood got off to an 8-0 lead before Notre Dame got to bat, and bashed 22 hits to earn the 20-3 game one win. All of Notre Dame's offense came in the bottom of the fifth inning. Senior Whitley Noel (Red Lion, PA/Red Lion Area) had two hits with a run scored and a stolen base, with freshman Cara Corsaro (Manchester, MD/North Carroll) adding a RBI single and a run scored. Junior Cherish Deaver (Bel Air, MD/Fallston) also had a hit and a run scored in the loss.

The Pacers were led by Kim Flanagan's four hits and three RBI, as well as Shawna Sandy who added three hits, five RBI and two runs scored. Talia Williams improved to 3-2 on the year in the circle for Marywood, tossing a complete game, allowing six hits and three earned runs while striking out five.

Marywood opened game two with five runs over the first three innings, but broke the game open in the top of the fifth with seven more runs for the 12-0 win. Marywood pitcher Kaitlyn Brennan held Notre Dame to just four hits in the complete game shutout. Gator freshman Mindy Daugherty (Hampstead, MD/Hampstead) had two hits while Corsaro and junior Ashley Taylor (Edgewood, MD/Harford Tech.) had the other hits for Notre Dame.

The Gators will next host CSAC opponent Philadelphia Biblical (5-13 overall, 26 CSAC) on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
