Centenary Sweeps Notre Dame

Sophomore Katie Murphy had an RBI single for the Gators in game two of the doubleheader.

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ - College of Notre Dame softball fell at Colonial States Athletic Conference foe Centenary College by scores of 12-0 and 9-1 Saturday afternoon. The Gators dropped to 4-17 overall and 3-15 in league play, while the Cyclones improved to 24-10 and remain near the top of the league standings at 14-4.

The Cyclones got out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first in game one, and went on to break the game open with five runs in the third and fourth innings for the 12-0 win. Notre Dame had threatened often in the contest to score, but ultimately were unable to get anything across.

The Gators were able to get the first two runners on board in both the second and fourth innings, but Cyclones pitcher Kristin Durborow was able to get out of both jams unscathed.

Down 3-0, the Gators were able to cut the Cyclones lead to 3-1 in the top of the fourth in game two. Notre Dame led off with three straight walks which was followed by an RBI single off the bat of sophomore Katie Murphy (Baltimore/Baltimore Poly). With the bases still loaded and nobody out, relief pitcher Ali Knapp struck out the next three batters to stop the Notre Dame threat. Centenary carried its momentum into the next three innings, scoring six unanswered runs for the 9-1 win.

Notre Dame will next turn around and travel to local opponent Harford Community College on Sunday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
