BEL AIR, MD - Visiting Stevenson defeated College of Notre Dame by scores of 10-0 and 16-0 in a non-conference softball doubleheader Wednesday afternoon. The Mustangs improve to 23-14 with the wins while the Gators fall to 4-19.
Stevenson scored in all but one inning in both games combined. The Mustangs took advantage of six Gator errors in game one. Of the ten runs Notre Dame pitcher Cherish Deaver (Bel Air, MD/Fallston) allowed, just four were earned. The Gators were able to get just three hits off Mustang starting pitcher Julianne Roper. Senior Whitley Noel (Red Lion, PA/Red Lion Area) had two of those Gator hits, including a triple. Roper earned the win while teammate Elizabeth Moul tossed the final two innings in perfect relief.
The Mustangs pounded out 18 hits in game two en route to the 16-0 win. Brittany Rynowski went 5-for-5 at the dish with two triples, a double, single and four runs scored to lead Stevenson. Sarah Moelter and Desirae Sullivan combined to just give up two Notre Dame hits. Noel went 1-for-2 in game two and is currently riding a five game hitting streak, which is tied with teammate Cara Corsaro for the longest such Notre Dame streak this season.
The Gators wrap up their 2010 season this week with a home doubleheader against Colonial States Athletic Conference opponent Gwynedd-Mercy on Friday at 3 p.m. Notre Dame will then play its final home doubleheader of the season on Saturday against CSAC opponent Keystone on Saturday, and will wrap up the regular season on Sunday at the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference softball invitational.
