Gators Sweep Rosemont

ROSEMONT, PA - College of Notre Dame softball earned its first doubleheader sweep in program history Friday afternoon, with 11-5 and 14-2 wins at Colonial States Athletic Conference opponent Rosemont. The Gators improved on their program record for wins in a season, moving to 4-8 overall and 3-7 in CSAC play with the wins. The Ravens dropped to 0-8 and 0-6 with the losses, respectively.

Gator junior Cherish Deaver (Bel Air, MD/Fallston) set a new program record for pitcher strikeouts in a game, fanning ten Ravens in a complete game effort in the 11-5, game one win. Deaver also went 1-for-2 with a double, a stolen base, two RBI and two runs scored.

Notre Dame freshman Cara Corsaro (Manchester, MD/North Carroll) had three hits, including a double, three RBI and two runs scored. Sophomore Katie Murphy (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Poly) belted her second home run of the season, setting a new

Notre Dame record for home runs in a season. Senior Whitley Noel (Red Lion, PA/Red Lion Area) added two hits, two runs scored and two stolen bases while teammate Meghan Hartnett (Baltimore, MD/Mount Carmel) also added two hits with a RBI and run scored.

The Gators tied a program record for runs scored in a game in their 14-2 win in the night cap. Freshman pitcher Kirsten Smulovitz (Fallston, MD/Towson Catholic) allowed just two runs on five hits to earn her program record third victory of the season in the circle.

Notre Dame had four players register at least two hits in the five-inning victory. Freshman Mindy Daugherty (Hampstead, MD/Hampstead) had three hits, three stolen bases, four runs scored and two RBI from the leadoff spot. Murphy also had three hits with

three RBI, a run scored and a stolen base. Corsaro added two hits with two RBI and two runs scored, while freshman Shy Allender (Baltimore, MD/Chesapeake) had two hits with a run scored. Noel had a hit and two RBI and Deaver scored three runs while going 1-for-2 in the game.

Notre Dame will look to extend its program record setting two wins in a row on Saturday with a 1 p.m. home doubleheader against CSAC opponent Marywood.
