Allentown, PA – College of Notre Dame of Maryland secured its first Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) win over Cedar Crest College 16-8 on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore Allison Terry (Perry Hall, MD/Catholic) had an outstanding performance, recording a season high 10 goals. Junior Ashley Cumberland (Baltimore, MD/Kenwood) scored four goals. Classmates Molly Murray (Aberdeen, MD/Aberdeen) and Kelsey Kempf (Huntingtown, MD/Huntingtown) each picked up points for the Gators. Murray finished with one goal and two assists while Kempf posted one goal, one assist and seven draw controls. Samantha Burley (Cockeysville, MD/Perry Hall) pulled down six draw controls.
The opening thirty minutes of play found the Gators and Falcons in a very tight game. Cedar Crest took a 3-0 lead with 14:11 on the clock. Cumberland responded with two goals within thirty-five seconds of each other to pull Notre Dame to within one goal. Terry knotted the game up at 3-3 with 8:32 remaining in the first half. The Falcons pulled ahead 5-3 just four minutes later, but the Gators responded with two quick goals. Cedar Crest scored one last goal to take a 6-5 advantage at halftime.
College of Notre Dame dominated the final thirty minutes of play. Terry scored four goals in the first five minutes of the second half to give the Gators a 9-6 lead. Cedar Crest answered with a goal, but Notre Dame would go on a 4-0 that was capped off by a Terry goal with 18:21 left in regulation.
The Falcons’ Tara Fikes broke up the Notre Dame scoring streak with her fifth goal of the game at the 17:49 mark. Over the final sixteen minutes of play Notre Dame added on three more goals, the first was a Cumberland goal assisted by Murray. Kelsey Kempf scored her lone goal with 12:22 remaining off of an Amanda Brenner (Westminster, MD/Westminster) pass. Terry picked up her 10th goal of the game on a free position shot just seven and a half minutes remaining.
Notre Dame improved to 1-2 in CSAC action with the 16-8 victory over Cedar Crest. The Gators play host to Randolph-Macon College on Wednesday afternoon at 4pm in a non-conference game.
