Rosemont Upsets Notre Dame

Box Score: Game 1

Box Score: Game 2

Bel Air, MD – College of Notre Dame of Maryland softball falls to Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opponent Rosemont College on Friday afternoon.

In game one Notre Dame scored four runs on five hits. The Gators jumped out to an early lead, scoring one run in the bottom of the first innings. The Ravens answered with a run of their own in the next half inning. Notre Dame regained their one run advantage in the second inning.

Rosemont tied the game again in the top of the fourth inning and quickly extended their lead in the fifth inning. Notre Dame would be held scoreless in the fifth and would need a late inning rally to overtake the Ravens. The Gators started the rally putting two runs on the board in the sixth inning, making it 6-4. Unfortunately, Notre Dame would not be able to pull any closers in the seventh innings.

Game two saw the Ravens pulling out to a five run lead in the top half of the first. Notre Dame quickly cut into the Rosemont lead posting two runs in the first inning. Rosemont found a way to score three more runs in the second to take an 8-2 lead. Notre Dame’s offense was held scoreless until the fifth inning. The Gators first three batters of the innings would each cross the plate.

Trailing by three runs and two innings left the Notre Dame bats would need to come alive, but the Raven’s pitching and strong defense would keep the Gators off the scoreboard.

Mindy Daugherty (Hampstead, MD/North Carroll) lead at Gators’ hitters with three hits, two RBIs and two runs scored on the afternoon.  Kirsten Smulovitz (Fallston, MD/Towson Catholic) had two hits and two RBIs. Ashley Taylor (Edgewood, MD/Harford Tech) posted three RBIs. Defensively Sam Smith (Baltimore, MD/Towson Catholic) made 15 putouts.
