Rain Suspends Softball Doubleheader

Box Score

Bel Air, MD – In a rain soaked game one College of Notre Dame of Maryland softball came up short against Centenary College. Game two of the doubleheader has been suspended do to the weather.

The Cyclones’ hitters jumped on the Gators early posting ten runs in the first two innings. They would tack on another run in the top of the third. Notre Dame finally scored a run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Mindy Daugherty (Hampstead, MD/North Carroll) reached on a two out single and then stole second base. Kirsten Smulovitz (Fallston, MD/Towson Catholic) walked to put runners on first and second. Ashley Taylor (Edgewood, MD/Harford Tech) hit into a fielder’s choice that scored Daugherty.

Notre Dame and Centenary immediately turned around and started game two in hopes of finishing the doubleheader before the weather got too bad. Unfortunately after playing the top half of the first the umpires suspended the game because of the rain.

The Gators return to the field tomorrow when they travel to Marywood University in a conference match-up.
