La Plume, PA - Keystone College takes two games from College of Notre Dame on Thursday afternoon. The Gators would get shutout in game one, 10-0, but almost pulled out a game two victory, falling 7-6.
Notre Dame got the bats going in the second inning of game two. The Gators used four hits, two walks and a hit batter to drive in five runs. The Giants cut the Notre Dame lead back down to two runs, 5-3, in the bottom of the third inning. In the very next inning they tied the game up at 5-5. In the top of the sixth inning the Gators regained their advantage on an RBI double by sophomore Mindy Daugherty (Hampstead, MD/ North Carroll).
Keystone again tied the game up at 6-6 in the bottom of the sixth inning. With the game entering the decisive seventh innings the Gators would need to score a run if they wanted to split the doubleheader with the Giants. Unfortunately, Notre Dame was not able to drive in the two runners they had moved into scoring position. With the game is knotted at 6-6 Keystone looked to secure a win with a run in the bottom half of the inning. Even with strong defensive plays by the Gators, Keystone was still able to drive in a run to pick up the game two victory.
Daugherty finished the day with two hits, two RBIs and one run scored. Sam Smith (Baltimore, MD/ Towson Catholic) finished with one hit and two RBIs while freshman Amber Lovejoy (Eldersburg, MD/ Liberty) added one hit, one RBI and two runs scored.
