Gators Open Home Season With 13-1 Victory Over Hiram

Box Score Baltimore, Md. -- Notre Dame of Maryland University opened their home schedule with a 13-1 victory of Hiram College Saturday afternoon.  Senior Molly Murray (Aberdeen, Md.) and sophomore Brittany Peddicord (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) led the Gators as they both recorded three goals.

Notre Dame jumped out to an early lead as they scored five goals in the first five minutes.  Senior Alli Terry (Towson, Md./Catholic) opened the game with her fifth goal of the season, scoring just 40 seconds in.  Murray then followed with her first goal of the season just a minute later. 

Sophomore Kate Donadio (Reisterstown, Md./Franklin) notched her first goal of the season in less than a minute after Murray's score off a pass from Terry, while Peddicord knocked in her first goal just 18 seconds later.

Murray then added her second goal in the fifth minute of the half, giving the Gators the 5-0 early lead. Terry added her second goal of the day, and sixth overall nine minutes into the opening half. 

Sophomore Katie Johnston (Baltimore, Md./Catholic) and senior Rachel Jones (Westminster, Md./Francis Scott Key)  extended the advantage to 8-0 scoring unassisted goals two minutes apart. 

Hiram knocked in their lone goal with eight minutes remaining in the first before allowing two more first half goals for Notre Dame, as Murray knocked in her third goal for the hat-trick while Jones added her second.

In the second half, the hosts posted the 13-1 final score as Peddicord added a goal early off a pass from Murray.  Donadio and Peddicord both scored later in the half.

Defensively, sophomore goalkeeper Mary Briggs (Holladay, Utah/Judge Memorial Catholic) recorded four saves while Terry led the team with three caused turnovers and four ground balls. 

Notre Dame improves to 1-1 on the year and will return to Alumnae Field March 16 as they host Calvin College.
