Strong Team Performance Pushes Notre Dame Past Gwynedd-Mercy

Box Score Baltimore, Md. --  Gwynedd-Mercy College took a late 12-11 lead but Notre Dame of Maryland University used a strong team effort to retake a lead and push past the Griffins for a a 14-12 Colonial States Athletic Conference victory.

The Gators were led by Alli Terry (Towson, Md./Catholic) as she scored seven goals on the day, pushing her season total to 28.  Sophomore Brittany Peddicord (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) added improved her season total to 14 with three goals and assist on the day while senior Molly Murray (Aberdeen, Md.) chipped in with two goals to give her 13 on the year. 

Senior goalkeeper Emily Langton (Mays Landing, N.J./Holy Spirit) finished the game with nine saves to pick up her second straight win.

Terry helped put Notre Dame out front early as she picked up four goals in the first part of the first half.  Peddicord added a goal to answer a Griffin goal, giving the Gators a 5-2 lead at the 16 minute mark. 

Senior Rachel Jones (Westminster, Md./Francis Scott Key) scored her fifth goal of the season before two Gwynedd-Mercy goals decreased the Notre Dame lead to 6-4. 

Sophomore Katie Johnston (Baltimore, Md./Catholic) scored her seventh of the year and Peddicord notched her second of the game to push lead back to a two-goal advantage.  Three straight goals by the Griffins put the visitors to within in, but Terry knocked in a goal with two seconds left in the half to give the Gators a 9-7 halftime lead. 

An early goal in the second half by the Griffins made it a one goal difference, but Terry once again scored to give the Gators a 10-8 lead with 17 minutes left in the game.

Gwynedd-Mercy then rattled off three straight goals to give the Griffins their first advantage of the day at 11-10 with just under 11 minutes left.  The visitors held a lead for over four minutes before Peddicord put in her third goal of the day to tie the game, then Murray gave Notre Dame the lead once again with back-to-back goals to give the hosts a lead at 13-11.

The Griffins provided one more scare as they knocked in a goal at 2:40 left in the game to make it a one-goal difference.  Terry then secured the Gators victory at 14-12 with her seventh goal of the game with just under two minutes remaining.

With the win, Notre Dame (4-3, 2-2 CSAC) will now host Wesley College in a non-conference game on Thursday.
