Box Score Baltimore, Md. -- Notre Dame of Maryland University claimed their first victory of the season as they took a 17-5 win over Colonial States Athletic Conference rival Cedar Crest College.
The Gators jumped out to an early 5-1 lead less than 10 minutes into the game and never looked back as they took a 14-3 lead into halftime.
Notre Dame was led by junior
Brittany Peddicord (Timonium, Md./Dulaney), who led the squad with six goals, an assist, and seven ground balls. She also caused three turnovers.
Sophomore
Sawyer Butto (Wyomissing, Pa./Sacred Heart University) added five goals and also caused three turnovers on the day.
Freshman
Carrie Naylor (Elkridge, Md./Mount de Sales) notched three goals and an assist while freshmen twins
Michaela and Katelynn Olson (Kingsville, Md./Perry Hall) both scored. Katelynn Olson also finished with three assists and Michaela chipped in with two. Senior
Laura Kaufman (Baltimore, Md./Loch Raven) also scored a goal for the Gators.
The Gators jumped out to an early lead as Peddicord and Butto each scored two goals in the first ten minutes of the game. Katelynn Olson also scored to give the team a 5-1 early lead. After CCC scored twice to cut the lead to 5-3, the Gators answered by rattling off nine straight goals.
Peddicord started the rally with two straight goals followed by Butto and Michaela Olson both notching goals. Butto added her fourth of the day, followed by Peddicord's fifth. Kaufman then scored her second goal of the season. Two minutes later, Butto posted her fifth of the day. Just one minute later Peddicord scored her sixth goal to give the Gators a 14-3 halftime lead.
Cedar Crest opened the second half with two quick goals to make the score 14-5 and that would be as close as the visiting Falcons would get. Naylor scored three goals in the second half to provide the 17-5 final.
Notre Dame will now hit the road as the Gators will travel to Bryn Athyn College on Wednesday.
