Box Score Baltimore, Md. -- Notre Dame of Maryland University made a late rally to close within one goal, but it wasn't enough as the Gators fell to Colonial States Athletic Conference rival Rosemont College in lacrosse action.
Notre Dame was led by junior
Brittany Peddicord (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) who posted two goals, three groundballs and caused two turnovers. Sophomore
Jessica Marx (Edgewood, Md./Joppatowne) notched her first career goal in the second half. She also led the squad with six groundballs.
Senior
Laura Kaufman (Baltimore, Md./Loch Raven), junior
Kate Donadio (Reisterstown,Md./Franklin), and freshmen
Carrie Naylor (Elkridge, Md./Mount de Sales) and
Katelynn Olson (Kingsville, Md./Perry Hall) each finished the game with four ground balls.
Freshman goalkeeper Deja Martin (Salisbury, Md./Wicomico) finished the day with nine saves.
The Gators fell behind early and faced a 3-0 deficit at the break. Peddicord got Notre Dame on the board just four minutes into the second half to narrow the deficit. After 12 minutes of action and several unsuccessful attempts by the Gators, Rosemont found the net to push their lead back to 4-1 with a little over 14 minutes remaining in the game.
Peddicord again found the net, this time off a pass from junior
Sawyer Butto (Wyomissing, Pa./Sacred Heart University), at 5:06 left in the contest to give new life to the Gators.
With 2:36 left, Jessica Marx took advantage of a confused Raven defense to beat the goalie for her first career goal and to narrow the Raven's lead to 4-3. The Gators looked to tie the game in the last minute when Naylor took a shot with 33 seconds remaining, but the Rosemont goalkeeper managed to deflect the ball into the stick of a Rosemont defender and the Ravens were able to run out the clock to claim the 4-3 victory.
Notre Dame will have little time between games as the Gators return to action tomorrow by travelling to Bryn Athyn College.
