Box Score 2 Rosemont, Pa. -- Notre Dame of Maryland University bounced back to take a 2-1 victory in game too, but fell to Rosemont College 6-2 in the opener to split their Colonial States Athletic Conference doubleheader.
In the opener, the Gators scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning, with junior Ashley Fallon (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood) stealing both second and third base. After a walk to put freshman
Stephanie Miller (Darnestown, Md./Northwest) on first, Miller stole second and the threw by the catcher allowed Fallon to score the squad's first run of the game. Miller then scored on an error by the hosts on a ball hit by junior
Tawny Cevora (Norfolk, Va./Lake Taylor). Unfortunately the rally fell short, causing the Gators to drop the opener.
Rosemont then opened the nightcap with a run in the first inning to take a 1-0 advantage. Notre Dame answered by tying the game in the third inning when Miller again took advantage of a Rosemont error to score after advancing to second on a walk and a stolen base.
In the fourth inning, the Gators took their first lead of the day when freshman
Wendi Winkelman (Baltimore, Md./Patapsco) scored giving the visitors a 2-1 advantage. Winkelman opened the inning with a single and advanced to second on a passed ball. Junior
Aubrey Janson (Baltimore, Md./Institute of Notre Dame) followed with a single to allow Winkelman to cross the plate.
Fallon also threw for eight strikeouts in game two, putting her at 21 strikeouts for the week.
Notre Dame will see little rest time as they continue their road trip by travelling to CSAC rival Cedar Crest for a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.
