Box Score 2 Allentown, Pa. -- Notre Dame of Maryland University took a 15-3, 14-4 sweep over Cedar Crest College in a Colonial States Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday.
Freshman
Stephanie Miller (Darnestown, Md./Northwest) led the team with six hits and five runs scored while freshman
Wendi Winkelman (Baltimore, Md./Patapsco) added six hits with four runs and also finished with four runs batted in. Junior pitcher
Tawny Cevora (Norfolk, Va./Lake Taylor) added hits with juniors
Brea Kehr (Dundalk, Md./Bridgewater College),
Heather Lancellotti (Perry Hall, Md.) and
Colleen McCauley (Hagerstown, Md./St. Maria Goretti) each knocking four hits. McCauley and Lancellotti each scored four runs; and McCauley also added four RBI's.
Juniors
Marylu Ortiz (Oceanside, Calif./El Camino) and
Aubrey Janson (Baltimore, Md./Brick) paced the team with five RBI's each. Ortiz also added two doubles and three runs scored.
In the opener, Notre Dame used a 13-run second inning on their way to the victory. Facing a 3-1 deficit, every member of the Gators scored in the top of the second, with Miller, Lancellotti, Winkelman and Fallon each scoring twice. Notre Dame then added one more run in the third inning and after keeping Cedar Crest scoresless for the remainder of the game, claimed a 15-3 game one victory.
The nightcap saw Notre Dame gain an early lead by scoring nine runs in the first two innings, scoring six runs on seven hits in the first inning. In the second inning, Ortiz knocked a double to score both Lancellotti and was followed by a Winkelman single to score Kehr and Ortiz.
Cedar Crest answered with a run in the second inning and added three more in the third inning, but the Gators wouldn't allow anymore Falcon runs. The team also used a four-run fifth inning to seal the game and take the 14-4 victory sealing their third sweep this season.
