Gators Tie School's Win Record With 16-2 Victory Over Baptist Bible

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Clarks Summit, Pa. --  Notre Dame of Maryland University's softball team claimed a 16-2 victory over Baptist Bible College in Thursday's nightcap, tying the school's record for wins in a season. 

Junior Brea Kehr (Dundalk, Md/Bridgewater College) led the day by scoring six runs and also finished with six runs batted .  Freshman Stephanie Miller (Darnestown, Md./Northwest) finished the doubleheader with six runs, on four hits with three stolen bases.   She also had five RBI's in game two while hitting a triple and a home run in the victory.  Miller claimed her first victory of the season with five strikeouts. 

Junior Tawny Cevora (Norfolk, Va./Lake Taylor) chipped in with two runs on three hits, including a double and two RBI's.  Junior Heather Lancellotti (Perry Hall, Md.) scored three runs and two stolen bases.  Juniors Ashley Fallon (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood) and Marylu Ortiz (Oceanside, Calif./El Camino) contributed to the effort as Fallon notched three hits and Ortiz knocked in 4 RBi's in the opener.

The Gators opened the day with three runs in the first inning, and after the Defenders took the lead with four runs in their first inning, Notre Dame added six more runs to take a 9-4 lead.  In the third inning, Notre Dame put four more runs on the board and held a 13-5 lead going into the bottom of the third inning.

Baptist Bible took advantage of two Notre Dame errors in their third inning to post eight runs to tie the game at 13-13.  The hosts then added two more runs in the fourth to gain their first lead of the game at 15-13.  In the top of the seventh, the Gators were only able to add a run to ultimately drop the game 15-14.

Notre Dame rebounded in the night cap to score nine runs in the second inning and never looked back.  The visitors added two more runs in the third to claim an 11-1 lead after a Defender run in their third inning. 

In the fifth inning, the Gators crossed the plate five more times to push their total to 16 runs scored.  The hosts added a run but the Gators defense stayed strong to help Notre Dame claim the
16-2 victory, and their record-tying win of the season. 

The team will return to action on Monday and will attempt set a new school record for wins in a season by hosting CSAC rival Cairn University in another league doubleheader.
