Box Score Bryn Athyn, Pa. – Notre Dame of Maryland University scored four goals in the first six minutes of the game to power themselves to a 16-8 victory over Bryn Athyn College.
Sophomore
Sawyer Butto (Wyomissing, Pa./Sacred Heart University) led the Gators with a season high eight goals.
Junior
Brittany Peddicord (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) added three goals while adding five groundballs and four draw controls. Freshman
Carrie Naylor (Elkridge, Md./Mount de Sales) chipped in with two goals and four groundballs.
Senior
Laura Kaufman (Baltimore, Md./Loch Raven) notched her third goal of the season while juniors
Kate Donadio (Reistertown, Md./Franklin) and
Kaitlin Cox (Baltimore, Md./East Chapel Hill) both posted their first goals of the season. Donadio also finished with five groundballs while Kaufman had four.
Kaufman also paced the team with three caused turnovers. Freshman
Michaela Olson (Kingsville, Md./Perry Hall) notched a career high with seven draw controls.
Notre Dame opened the scoring quickly as the Gators notched three goals in a span of 45 seconds, beginning with Donadio's goal just three minutes into the game. Peddicord then followed with her first of the day 12 seconds later. Butto joined the action posting her first goal 30 seconds later and added her second three minutes later.
After the teams exchanged goals, with Naylor notching her first of the day to make the scored 5-2, Notre Dame again caught fire by notching three goals in a matter of two minutes. Butto began the run and ended the run, while Kaufman scoring a goal as well.
The hosts answered by scoring two more goals before Cox found her first of the season with just over six minutes in the half. Bryn Athyn scored with four minutes remaining that gave the Gators a 9-5 lead at the break.
Bryn Athyn began the second half scoring a goal just 21 seconds into the half, but Peddicord and Butto exchanged goals just 23 seconds apart to push the Notre Dame lead to 11-6.
Another goal by the Lions seemed to fuel the Gators offense again as they rattled off four straight goals, including two more by Butto. Peddicord and Naylor sandwiched a goal each between Butto's two goals.
Butto finished her day by answering a final Bryn Athyn goal in the 55
th minute to provide the visitors with the 16-8 final.
The Gators have now won two of their last three games and look to continue their hot streak as they travel to Colonial States Athletic Conference foe Centenary College on Saturday.
