Box Score 2 Baltimore, Md. -- Notre Dame of Maryland University scored in the first inning of the day but was unable to keep scoring as the Gators ended up falling to Colonial States Athletic Conference foe Marywood University in a conference softball doubleheader.
In the first inning, freshman
Stephanie Miller (Darnestown, Md./Northwest) began the inning by reaching first on an error by the Pacers first baseman. She then stole second and advanced to third on a ball hit by junior
Tawny Cevora (Norfolk, Va./Lake Taylor) and scored on a passed ball to score Notre Dame's early run and make the score 2-1 with a Marywood advantage. Unfortunately, it would be the only Gator run as the visitors added six runs in the second inning, and added two runs in the third and fourth inning to give the Pacers a 12-1 win in the opener.
Facing an early deficit, Miller again opened the nightcap with a run, this time being walked to first base. After a walk, junior
Brea Kehr (Dundalk, Md./Bridgewater College) knocked a ball into play for a single which allowed Miller to score her second run of the day.
In the fifth inning, Cevora crossed the plate to give Notre Dame another run. Reaching first on a single, she advanced to third from Kehr being hit by a pitch and a walk by junior
Colleen McCauley (Hagerstown, Md./St. Maria Goretti). Cevora scored when the next batter, junior
Aubrey Janson (Baltimore, Md./Institute of Notre Dame) hit into a fielder's choice. However, the two runs would not be enough as Marywood took advantage of a 10 run first inning to power their way to a 15-2 second game victory.
Miller also made her second appearance on the mound and led the team with six strikeouts.
The Gators will remain on their home field as they will host Trinity Washington University on Wednesday.
