Lacrosse Opens Home Slate With 18-5 Victory Over Keystone

Box Score Baltimore, Md. -- Notre Dame of Maryland University claimed an 18-5 victory over Colonial States Athletic Conference rival Keystone College in the lacrosse team's first home game of the 2015 season.

Senior Sawyer Butto (Wyomissing, Pa.) scored five goals while freshman Hannah Frederick (Baltimore, Md./Dundalk) added four. Sophomore Michaela Olson (Kingsville, Md./Perry Hall) notched three goals and senior Brittany Peddicord (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) and sophomore Carrie Naylor (Elkridge, Md./Mount de Sales) chipped in with two goals each. Sophomore Katelynn Olson (Kingsville, Md./Perry Hall) also scored.

Seniors Abby Jacobson (Easton, Md./Colonel Richardson) and Kate Donadio (Reistertown, Md./Franklin) eached paced the team with six groundballs and three caused turnovers to lead the defensive effort. M. Olson finished with five draw controls.

Sophomore goalkeeper De'ja Martin (Salisbury, Md./Wicomico) posted six saves in her first CSAC victory of the year.

In the game, Keystone struck first, and the teams would battle to a 2-2 tie just under five minutes into the game, behind Notre Dame goals by Frederick and Peddicord. Naylor would give Notre Dame their first lead at the 21:01 mark, but the Giants answered to make it 3-3.

The Gators would then go on a three goal run as M. Olson, Butto and Frederick would all score to give the team a 6-3 advantage. Over the next few minutes, Keystone would score twice, but another Naylor goal would make the score 7-5 with 12 minutes left in the first half.

With 4:29 left in the half, M. Olson would find the net again, which triggered a five-goal rally to close out the first half. Peddicord scored with 3:15 left, and Butto added back-to-back goals before M. Olson scored her final goal of the day with five seconds remaining to give Notre Dame a 12-5 lead.

Notre Dame would control the second half, keeping the Giants from scoring. Butto would score two second half goals while K. Olson and Frederick would also notch goals. With 1:15 left in the game, the Gators took advantage of a Keystone own goal to make the score 18-5.

The Gators will now look to gain their second CSAC victory of the season on Saturday as they host Centenary College on Alumnae Field.
