Softball Travels to Cairn For CSAC Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Baltimore, Md.  --  Notre Dame of Maryland University travelled to Colonial States Athletic Conference rival Cairn University for a softball doubleheader.

Sophomore Wendi Winkelman (Baltimore, Md./Patapsco) paced the team with three hits, two doubles, and three runs batted in.  She also scored a run.  Freshman Catherine Bruzdzinski (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore Lutheran) added three hits.  Senior Brea Kehr (Dundalk, Md./Bridgewater College) added a double and two runs.  Senior Ashley Fallon (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood) and freshman Meghan O'Connor (Oxford, Pa./Oxford Area) also added a run.

In the opener, O'Connor started the game with a triple and scored on a single by Winkelman.  Winkelman found her way to third base after Fallon walked and an error by the Highlanders infield.  A passed ball would allow Winkelman to score, which Fallon used to advance to third.  Sophomore Morgan Ward (Randallstown, Md./Western Tech) would single to score Fallon and give the Gators a 3-0 lead.

Unfortunately the hosts would tie te game after a three-run second inning.  A five-run fifth inning would be too much for the Gators to overcome as they would drop game one 8-3.

The nightcap would see Notre Dame again score in the first inning as Kehr would double and then took advantage of a Cairn error on a ball hit by Winkelman to score, providing a 1-0 lead, but the Highlanders would answer with two runs in their first inning.

Kehr would tie the game at 2-2 after three innings by reaching base an error and scoring on a Winkelman double.  However, another two run inning in the fifth inning by Cairn would be enough to give the hosts a 4-2 victory.

The Gators will conclude their season on Saturday as they will visit Keystone College.
