Box Score Baltimore, Md. -- The Notre Dame of Maryland University lacrosse team scored six goals in the first 10 minute on their way to a 15-4 victory over Colonial States Athletic Conference rival Cedar Crest College.
The Gators were led sophomore
Kaitlyn Walter (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) who posted four goals and four assists. Freshman
Megan Morales (Joppa, Md./Catholic) notched five goals. Juniors
Carrie Naylor (Elkridge, Md./Mount de Sales) and
Khamaree Owens (Waldorf, Md./Westlake) added two goals each. Senior
Jessica Marx (Edgewood, Md./Joppatowne) scored her first goal of the season while freshman
Peace Ani (Windsor Mill, Md./Western Tech) recorded her first career goal.
Morales, Naylor and Walter each tied for the team's lead with six ground balls, with junior
Bri Johnson (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore City College) chipping in with five. Morales and Naylor also finished with a team-best five draw controls each.
Defensively, Morales, Johnson and sophomore
Katie Salim (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) each caused two turnovers.
Notre Dame jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead as Morales scored early into the start of the half, with Walter notching back-to-back goals and Owens scoring her first of the day just over six minutes into the contest.
After Cedar Crest scored, the Gators ended the first half with a 6-0 run to take a 10-1 lead into halftime. Owens and Morales each tallied their second goals of the day to start the rally. Naylor would then notch her first of the day off a pass from Walter, who followed with her own goal on a free position shot. After Morales scored for the third time, Marx found the back of the net with 3:23 left in the first half.
After the break, Morales continued the Notre Dame run by scoring two goals from Walter to push their lead up to 12-1. The Falcons rebounded with a 3-1 run to reduce their deficit to 13-4 before Naylor scored again and assisted on Ani's goal to make the final 15-4.
With the win, Notre Dame improves to 2-2 overall, 1-1 in CSAC play and will return to action Tuesday as they host Bard College in a nonconference matchup.
