Box Score Clarks Summit, Pa. -- Notre Dame of Maryland University visited Summit University to take on the Defenders in a Colonial States Athletic Conference softball doubleheader.
Senior
Tawny Cevora (Norfolk, Va./Lake Taylor) paced the Gators with three hits and three runs batted in. She also knocked a double and a triple, and tied junior
Margaret Pedersen (Brick, N.J.) and freshman
Lilly Gordon (Delta, Pa./Kennard-Dale) by scoring two runs each.
Freshmen
Paola Castillo (San Pedro Sula, Honduras/Escuela International Sampedrana) and
Madison King (Virginia Beach, Va./Bayside) both added two hits.
In the opener, the Gators responded to a Summit run by taking the game in the third inning. Pedersen started the inning with a double and scored off a sacrifice fly by Castillo.
After the hosts added two runs, Notre Dame took a lead with three runs in the fifth inning. After reaching first on an error, she scored on a double by Cevora. Cevora then tied the game by scoring off another Summit error, this time hit by Castillo. King followed with a single up the middle which allowed Castillo to score and give the team a 4-3 lead.
However, the hosts answered with two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 5-4 victory.
The Gators opened the second game with a run in the top of the first inning when Cevora scored on a ball hit by King.
The Defenders tied the score in their first inning, then added more runs in the second and third inning. In the fourth inning, Notre Dame scored two runs on Cevora's triple, allowing Gordon and Pedersen to score.
Unfortunately Summit responded with more runs and captured an 11-3 victory in the nightcap.
The Gators will look to regroup as they return to Druid Hill Park for the final home game of the season Friday afternoon. The game will also serve as Senior Day for Cevora.
