Softball Finalizes 2016 Season At Centenary

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Hackettstown, N.J. --  Notre Dame of Maryland University's softball team finalized their 2016 season by taking on Centenary College Saturday afternoon in a Colonial States Athletic Conference doubleheader.

Senior Tawny Cevora (Norfolk, Va./Lake Taylor) paced the team with three hits and one run batted in.   Freshman Samantha Kastner (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) added a double while sophomore Grace Park (Clarksville, Md./Atholton) and freshman Madison King (Virginia Beach, Va./Bayside) also added a hit each.  

Cevora gave Notre Dame a quick lead in the first game by smashing a home run in the third inning.  It was her third straight game with a home run, and her sixth of the season, improving her single season and career home run record.  She will also has posted single season records in hits, doubles and triples.  Her .494 average also marks a single season record.  Pitching, she holds the top four single season marks for strikeouts thrown.  For her career, she has thrown the most strikeouts and has the most wins in school history.   She also holds the record for hits, doubles, triples and home runs.  Her first year she threw the programs only no-hitter.  

The doubleheader would not go Notre Dame's way as they dropped the opener 4-1 and the nightcap 7-0.  

This year's team not only increased their wins total, they also improved in nearly all offensive categories, including average, hits, runs, doubles, triples, home runs and RBI's.  This year's pitching staff also threw more strikeouts.  As a team, they set a new school record for most home runs in a season.
