Box Score Baltimore, Md. – The Notre Dame of Maryland University lacrosse team hosted Colonial States Athletic Conference opponent Immaculata University Wednesday afternoon in a close matchup that came down to the final seconds of the game.
The Gators were led in scoring by freshman
Megan Morales (Joppa, Md./Catholic) who recorded six goals and one assist. Sophomore Kaitlyn Walter (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) and freshman Kirstin McGee (Middle River, Md./Catholic) both tallied three goals apiece with McGee adding one assist and junior Brittany Smith (Parkville, Md. / Wilde Lake) notching her second goal of the season.
In the game, Morales paced Notre Dame with eight draw controls while junior
Carrie Naylor (Elkridge, Md./Mount de Sales) recorded a team high, seven ground balls.In goal, junior De'Ja Martin (Salisbury, Md./Wicomico) posted eight saves.To open the game, Morales would grab the first draw control of the game, but the Mighty Macs would force a quick turnover. On the opposite end, Immaculata would see their first goal of the game with just over two minutes off the clock. Off the next draw control, Morales would again gain possession and go straight to goal, scoring her 31st goal of the season. Immaculata would then take a two goal lead over the Gators before Walter would find her first goal of the game with 22 minutes left in the first half. After four minutes of play, Immaculata would again go up by two scores, but Notre Dame would answer back.
After back-to-back offensive possessions, Smith and Morales would both score, helping the Gators tie the game at four goals apiece. The Mighty Macs would go on a two-goal run, going up 6-4 with 12 minutes left in the first half.
Over the next 10 minutes, the Gators would outscore the Mighty Mac 3-1, again seeing the score tie at seven. Immaculata would score two more to go up 9-7 to go into halftime.
Notre Dame and Immaculata opened the second half, trading goals through the first 14 minutes. With 16 minutes left in the game, the Mighty Macs would score, seeing the Gators down three.
Walter, McGee, and Morales would each score over the next five minutes, seeing the score tied for the fourth and final time at 12 each.
Immaculata would break the tie in the next minute and would eventually go up by two with nine minutes left in the game. After three shot attempts by Notre Dame, Walter would score the final goal of the game with 23 seconds left on the clock. The Mighty Mac would secure the draw control as time expired, the Gators falling 13-14.
Notre Dame next travels to CSAC rival Keystone College, Saturday. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
