Box Score BALTIMORE, Md. - Despite six goals from sophomore Megan Morales, the Notre Dame Maryland lacrosse team dropped a 20-14 decision to visiting Wilkes (2-2) in the Gators' home opener at frigid Alumnae Field on Monday afternoon.
Morales led the Gators to a quick start as she scored three goals in the first 12 minutes, helping her team build a 5-2 lead. However, the Lady Colonels came right back and scored three straight goals to tie the game at 5-5 with 13:15 left in the half.
After Morales scored to give the Gators a 6-5 advantage, Wilkes closed out the half with 5-2 spurt that gave the Lady Colonels a 10-8 lead at halftime.
Early in the second half, Wilkes went on a 5-0 run to take 16-9 lead with 21:59 remaining in the game. A free position goal by sophomore Kyra Boccio started the run as Wilkes scored five goals in less than four minutes.
From that point on, the Gators matched Wilkes goal-for-goal but they could get no closer than six goals.
Junior Jessyca Held led Wilkes with eight goals and three assists while Boccio added five goals and two assists. Reilly Meanor also tallied three goals.
Morales, who has scored 11 goals in two games, led the Gators with six goals and three assists. Junior Kaitlyn Walter scored four goals and had one assist while sophomore Kirstin McGee had four assists. Senior Brittany Smith and freshman Summer Corey each added a pair of goals for the Gators.
Goalkeeper Deja Martin made 12 saves for Notre Dame.
The Gators return to action on Thursday, March 16 when they host Bryn Mawr at Alumnae Field at 4:30 p.m.
