Box Score 2 WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Notre Dame of Maryland softball faced off against local rival Gallaudet University in their first game since traveling to Virginia Beach for the Virginia Wesleyan Beach Blast Tournament. The Gators suffered a first game loss to the Bison and ended their second game in a tie due to nightfall.
Pitching her first doubleheader for Notre Dame, freshman
Isa Carunungan recorded two strikeouts over 12 innings. She also led the team at the plate, registering four hits and three RBIs in seven plate appearances. Carunungan drove in the game-tying runs at the top of the sixth inning in the Gators' second game. Senior
Morgan Ward and sophomore
Sammy Kastner both had two hits over the doubleheader, with Ward posting two runs in their second game and Kastner recording her first triple of her career.
In their second game, the Gators scored three runs in the second off a double by sophomore L
illy Gordon that brought home two and a single from Carunungan, scoring Gordon. After three pop outs for the Bison in the bottom of the inning, Kastner would use her triple to score freshman
Sydney Salgado to take a 3-0 lead. In the bottom of the third, Gallaudet would register six runs off five hits to take a two run lead over the Gators, but in the top of the sixth, a single up the middle for Carunungan would score Ward and Kastner to tie up the game. After holding Gallaudet in the bottom of the frame, the game would be called because of unsafe playing conditions.
Notre Dame moves to 0-5-1 on the season and will see some time off, returning to action next Saturday on the road at York College.
