Box Score 2 BALTIMORE, Md. – The Notre Dame softball team overcame an eight-run deficit to defeat Rosemont College, 11-10, in their second game of their Colonial States Athletic Conference doubleheader. The Gators split the doubleheader with the Ravens, falling in the first game, 10-2.
The Gators had three batters finish the doubleheader with a .500 batting average led by sophomore
Lilly Gordon who recorded four hits, four runs scored, and one RBI. Freshman
Hanna Morseman had a team-high five RBIs, with two hits and two runs scored. Pitching for the Gators, she had five strikeouts in the first game. Freshman
Sydney Salgado had a .500 batting average over the two games, with three hits and the walk off single to give the Gators their third conference win. Pitching, sophomore
Maddie King recorded the win for Notre Dame, while batting .500 with three hits and three RBIs.
In Notre Dame's first game, the Gators gave up six runs in the top of the first inning to start behind in their first plate appearance. Batting first for Notre Dame Gordon recorded her first hit of the game to center field. After Gordon advanced to third on sophomore
Sammy Kastner's at bat, Morseman drove in the Gators first run. Next at bat, King recorded a single to center field to bring home Kastner. After the first inning, Notre Dame could not register another run. After giving up two runs in the fourth inning, their first game ended in five innings, the Gators falling 10-2.
Notre Dame again started from behind in their second game, as Rosemont posted eight first inning runs, capitalizing on three errors. In the fourth inning, the Gators' first three batters (Gordon, Kastner, Salgado) got on base with back-to-back-to-back singles. Morseman singled in her at bat, scoring Gordon and advancing the runners. Next at bat, King register a deep single to score two, Notre Dame now down five, 8-3. Senior
Morgan Ward hitting in the seventh spot, hit into a fielder's choice to score Morseman. After facing all nine batters, Rosemont closed out the inning, Notre Dame now within four, 8-4.
After a scoreless fifth inning, the Gators again were able to manufacture runs in the sixth. After Gordon and Kastner combined for three RBIs, the Gators were now within one of Rosemont. In Morseman's at bat, she recorded a three-RBI single to give the Gators the lead. Notre Dame used seven hits to score seven runs, giving the Gators the lead, 11-8.
In the top of the seventh inning, Rosemont fought back. They notched four hits, scoring three to tie the game at 11 apiece. In her at bat, Gordon beat the throw at first to get on base with one out for Notre Dame. With Kastner at the plate, Gordon again beat a putout attempt, stealing second to put the Gators winning run in scoring position. A groundout for Kaster down the right-field line advanced Gordon to third, with Salgado at the plate. In walk-off fashion, Salgado drove a single to right center to score Gordon, giving Notre Dame the 11-10 win.
Notre Dame will see a break from action for the Easter holiday, but will return to action Tuesday at Harford Community College against CSAC opponent Neumann University.
