Gators Lacrosse Drops CSAC Game to Cabrini

Box Score BALTIMORE, Md. - After spotting Colonial States Athletic Conference leader Cabrini (12-3, 8-0) a large first half lead, the Notre Dame Maryland (3-7, 3-4) played the Cavaliers on almost even terms before dropping a 16-4 CSAC decision to Cabrini at Alumnae Field on Tuesday afternoon.

The Cavaliers, who are unbeaten in the CSAC, wasted little time taking control of the game. The Cavaliers scored twice in the first minute of the game as they opened up a lead they would never relinquish, Freshman Lauren Hughes scored off a pass from Avery Murphy just eight seconds after the opening draw for a 1-0 advantage. Just 29 seconds later, Murphy scored her 50th goal of the season to give Cabrini a 2-0 advantage.

With 93 seconds elapsed in the game, sophomore Liz Hoeffner made it 3-0 with her 39th goal of the season.

Junior Sasha Wozniak scored off a pass from Jackie Neary to put the Cavaliers ahead by four goals with 2:14 elapsed in the game.

Murphy added her second goal with 26:24 left in the half to make it a 5-0 lead. Just 15 seconds later, Murphy scored again for a 6-0 lead.

When Hughes scored her second goal with 24:42 left in the half, Cabrini owned a 7-0 advantage. Hoeffner's second goal put Cabrini ahead by 8-0 before Murphy scored her fourth goal of the contest to make it 9-0.

The Cavaliers opened up a 10-0 lead with 20:37 left in the half on another goal by Hughes.

By halftime, Cabrini had extended its lead to 15-0.

In a dominant first half performance, the Cavaliers outshot the Gators, 23-3. They also forced 16 turnover and won 11 of 15 draw controls.

In the second half, the Gators outscored Cabini by a 4-1 margin.

With 19:48 remaining in regulation, the Gators scored their first goal of the game as sophomore Megan Morales scored off a pass from Kirstin McGee to break the shutout.
With 15 minutes left in the contest, Hoeffner scored her fourth goal of the game to give Cabrini a 16-1 lead.

Junior Kaitlyn Walter added a goal with 8:11 remaining to pull the Gators within 16-2. With 3:53 left, Summer Corey converted a free position shot to make it a 16-3 game.
Morales scored her second goal of the game and her 42nd of the season with 1:45 left on a free position attempt to make the final score 16-4.

Murphy and Hoeffner led the Cavaliers with four goals each while Murphy added an assist and Hoeffner had two assists.

Hughes added three goals for the Cavaliers while Emily Crouse added a pair of goals. Wozniak scored one goal with two assists while Jess Breuning scored a goal with an assist.

Morales led Notre Dame with two goals and she also won four draw controls. Corey and Walter also scored for the Gators while McGee had one assist.

Senior goalkeeper Megan Barlow played the first half for Cabrini and she made three saves. De'ja Martin had two saves for the Gators.

The Gators return to action on Thursday, April 20 when they host Cedar Crest at 4:00 p.m. at Alumnae Field.
