Box Score 2 DUNDALK, Md. – Notre Dame of Maryland University softball opened their 2018 season at Community College of Baltimore County – Dundalk, hosting Penn State Schuylkill Thursday afternoon. The Nittany Lions swept their Gators in their first outing of the year, 23-5 and 15-3.
Game 1
Penn State Schuylkill opened up scoring in the first game of the doubleheader, scoring four runs in the top of the first. The Nittany Lions capitalized a few Gator errors early in the game to get on the board. In the bottom of the first, leading off Notre Dame, sophomore
Isa Carunungan posted the Gators' first hit of the game, singling to right field. With the bases loaded from two consecutive walks, sophomore
Hanna Morseman stepped to the plate and registered the third walk of the inning, scoring Carunungan from third. Batting fifth for Notre Dame, junior
Madison King, grounded out to second, but posted her first RBI, scoring freshman

Naudiya Hopkins walked in two more runs to get the Gators tied at four apiece before the end of the first.
PSU continued their solid hitting as the Gators gave up four or more runs in each of the remaining innings. Notre Dame got on the board in the bottom fourth inning as senior
Samantha Kastner started off the inning with an opening single. The Gators batted her around to third, when Lazaro grounded out to the pitcher scoring Kastner from third. Notre Dame fell in five innings, 23-5.
Carunungan and Morseman paced the team with two hits apiece. Morseman tallied a double in the game, while Lazaro led the team with two RBIs. Pitching for Notre Dame Morseman posted two strikeouts.
Game 2
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Gators increased their hit production, posting eight hits, with three players recording two or more. Morseman led the team at the plate with three hits and two RBIs. Kastner registered two hits in the game, one of which was her first double of the season. She also scored two of Notre Dame runs. Carunungan also tallied two hits for Notre Dame, while Polvinale recorded her first career hit in the second inning. Pitching for Notre Dame, King had two strikeouts.
The Gators fell in their second game, 15-3, in five innings.
Through their first doubleheader of the season, Morseman has gone a perfect 5-for-5 from the plate with three RBIs and two doubles. Kastner is hitting .600 with four runs and three hits in four at bats. Defensively, Kastner has 11 assisted putouts in the infield and Carunungan has six putouts in the outfield.
Notre Dame will have Friday off before they host Morrisville State Saturday afternoon at Morgan State University for a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m. For directions, please visit our facility page
