Box Score 2 HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. — Notre Dame softball continued their Colonial States Athletic Conference competition Friday afternoon as they traveled to Centenary University for a CSAC doubleheader. In their second doubleheader in two days, the Gators got on the board, but fell to the Cyclones, 18-1 and 9-1.
Junior Samantha Kastner led the Gators at the plate recording four hits in five at-bats over both games. Kastner hit for a .800 batting average against the Cyclones and is now leading the Gators this season at .476 average and .500 on base percentage. Sophomore Isa Carunungan finished the doubleheader with two hits and one RBI.
In only her second and third career games for the Gators, freshman Cynthia Cowen recorded both of Notre Dame's runs. Cowen, in only her second career plate appearance, drew an early walk in the fifth inning of the first game. Freshman Lucy Polvinale, batting second, scored Cowen from third for her first career RBI.
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Gators again scored late in the fifth inning. Cowen, this time batting sixth, again drew a walk with one out. After batting Cowen around, at the top of the order, Carunungan registered a long single to right center to score Cowen from third with two outs.
The Gators will see a short break for the Easter before returning to CSAC play on Monday at Cairn University.
