Box Score 2 DUNDALK, Md. – Notre Dame softball hosted Washington Adventist University Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference doubleheader. After dropping the first game to the Shock 14-2, the Gators came back and took game two, 9-7.
Junior
Samantha Kastner had an impressive day at the plate, going 5-for-7, with two doubles, two RBIs, and two runs scored. She continues to lead the Gators in batting average this season and is ranked 14
th in the conference at .449. Sophomore
Isa Carunungan also had two doubles against the Shock and had a .625 on base percentage. She drew three walks in the leadoff position and tallied four RBIs, two hits, and one run scored.
In game two, Notre Dame jumped out to an early lead with Carunungan first drawing a walk in the lead off position. Freshman
Lucy Polvinale reached on an error, which set up Kastner who posted a base clearing single. In the second and third innings, the Gators posted two more runs to take a 4-0 lead.
After a scoreless fourth inning, the Gators tacked on three more runs. Leading off the fifth, junior
Madison King drew a walk, followed by freshman
Rena Dyson who singled, moving King to second. Back-to-back strike outs saw sophomore
Naudiya Hopkins at the plate. She drew another walk to load the bases for the top of the order. Carunungan hit a base clearing double, scoring all three runs.
In the top of the six, WAU tallied four runs to get with three of the Gators. In the bottom of the fifth, NDMU added to their lead, recording two runs. Both freshman
Samantha Miguez Tolliver and Hopkins drew a walks with the bases loaded to score sophomore
Hanna Morseman and Dyson.
The Shock went on to score three in the top of the seventh, but the Gators closed the door, securing a 9-7 victory.
Notre Dame have two remaining home doubleheaders this season. On Saturday, the Gators will host Keystone College and on Monday they will host Gwynedd Mercy University.
