Box Score BALTIMORE- Notre Dame of Maryland's men's soccer team made history, playing in their inaugural game, falling to Goucher College by a score of 2-0 on Sunday, Sept. 3. 
 
The game was physical early on with each team being awarded yellow cards in the opening 17 minutes. In addition to the physicality of the game, both teams battled high temperatures that tested the stamina of the players. 
 
The Gators (0-1) began to put some pressure on the Gophers (2-0) midway through the opening half earning a corner kick in the 23rd minute. Goucher countered the attack, racing down the field and scoring their first goal of the game. Hector Alvarez fired the Gators lone shot of the first half in the 27th minute, with his attempt going wide of the net. 
 
Goucher struck early in the second half, scoring just over a minute into the half to take a commanding 2-0 lead. While the Gators could not create consistent offensive pressure, their defense stepped up to keep NDMU in the game. Starting goalkeeper Mateo Gularte made an incredible save in the 69th minute, leaping across the goal to punch a ball over the crossbar at the last possible second. Gularte finished the game with six saves. NDMU could not create a goal, falling 2-0.

• Fernando Rodriguez made a key defensive save, keeping the Gophers from extending their lead

The Gators will be back in action when they travel to face Gwynedd Mercy University on Wednesday, September 6. Kickoff is schedule for 7:00PM.
