Women’s Volleyball Claims Victory Over Penn State Berks

Women's Volleyball

Baltimore- The NDMU Women's Volleyball Team faced a thrilling victory against Penn State Berks in a competitive three-set match this past Tuesday Oct. 29. The set scores were 25-15, 20-25, 25-21, and 25-21.

Leading the offensive charge was Miasia Ferrer, who racked up an impressive nine kills. Her ability to find the gaps in Penn State's defense was crucial in keeping Notre Dame's offense humming. Ciarra Bockstie and Emma Mueller each added six kills, rounding out a well-balanced attack that kept Penn State Berks on their heels throughout the match.

Paulina Hernandez was a standout at the service line, delivering three aces and using her precise serves to disrupt Penn State's rhythm. Candace Forgach-Aguilar and Mueller each chipped in with an ace as well, adding valuable points at critical moments in each set.

NDMU's front line was equally effective on defense, led by Gwen Abnett, who recorded three blocks. Bockstie and Ferrer each contributed a block, reinforcing a strong net presence that made it difficult for Penn State to get past. The blocking efforts limited the opposition's chances to mount any significant scoring runs, setting the tone for a solid all-around defensive effort.

Setting up the offense was Emma Mueller, who had a game-high 22 assists. Her ability to distribute the ball with accuracy kept Notre Dame's attackers in prime position, while Natalie Newton and Shelbey Willson added eight and four assists, respectively, showing great teamwork and depth in the setter position.

On the defensive end, Hernandez led the digs column with an impressive 17, consistently keeping the ball alive with her quick reflexes and court coverage. Jade Stewart and Mueller were also solid in the back row, recording nine and seven digs respectively, providing Notre Dame with a sturdy back line that prevented Penn State from capitalizing on several hard-hit balls.

The win marks a solid team performance for Notre Dame, with each player contributing significantly to the sweep. Their efficient execution and relentless defense proved too much for Penn State Berks, who struggled to find an answer to Notre Dame's well-rounded play. Notre Dame's victory continues to showcase their potential as a formidable force this season, setting the stage for stronger performances ahead.
